Ways to Earn Additional Income

by | May 18, 2015

We’ve talked about selling your junk and working from home, and we’ve gone into why you should consider going back to school and getting a degree (or furthering the one that you already have). You’ve also read about the importance of learning about money so that you can make better decisions with each dollar that you spend. However, are there other ways that you can earn additional income, which can be put to use paying bills, adding to your savings account, putting more into your retirement fund, and much more?

Overtime

Most of us know that overtime pay can be a great bonus for your pay-cheque, but not everyone has the option of working overtime. Even if you aren’t normally offered overtime, talk to your employer about extra hours if you want to earn some extra money. You might get an opportunity for a few extra hours every week, even if it doesn’t lead to overtime money. Something is always better than nothing, especially where money is concerned.

At-Home Projects

For some people, working more hours isn’t an option, especially for single parents. At-home projects can be a great way to earn extra money without spending more hours away from the family. This can come in the form of work-related projects that you can take home (with pay, of course) or even projects that can result in some additional money, such as things you can build and sell. Writing projects (such as are offered by legit work-at-home options) can also net you a few dollars per job, but don’t expect to get rich from them. However, you need to know the basics of professional writing to avoid bad reviews and encourage future projects from potential employers.

Partnerships

If you work for yourself, or have time after the daily grind, consider a partnership for some extra income. For instance, buy into a thriving bookstore or comic shop, giving the store an economic boost and some additional funds in your own pocket on occasion. Make sure to work out all of the legal details before entering into a partnership though, so that you understand how often you’ll get paid, what your expected earnings will be, and whether anything else is required of you (such as working a certain number of hours per week). A good partnership can be very lucrative for both partners, and it can be a great way to invest in your community.

Tutoring

Another option for earning income, but one that is often overlooked, many people will pay for information that they desire. For instance, if you are a math whiz, you can tutor children—or adults!—and earn an hourly amount or salaried paycheque. Some places require a license to tutor though, so be sure to check out requirements in your area before offering your services. There are a lot of websites that allow tutors to post their credentials, and these can lead to some great projects and bonus money.

Above all else, allow God to guide your footsteps as you consider ways to make some additional income for you and/or your family. It can be a great way to eliminate debt, save up, and plan for the future, but it can also lead to less time with loved ones and additional stress. Hear God, and you will be far more likely to succeed in your endeavor.

Remember, He is the provider of all things… sometimes He may choose to deliver the provisions through your additional creativity and efforts.
