I’m Still Feeling Overwhelmed (Part 2)

by | Jul 27, 2015

in this second part of the series, I want to share a little bit about the reasons that most people feel overwhelmed when it comes to their finances. It might seem obvious, but some of the reasons might surprise you. The main reason that I’m sharing this is so that you can see all of the different situations in which your faith can be improved, your trust in God developed to an even stronger level, as you choose (yes, I said choose, and if you’re confused, read our last blog post for clarification on this) not to be disappointed. Here are top few reasons that most people feel overwhelmed, along with Scriptures to help you cope with each one.

I trust God, but I’m not seeing results fast enough.

It takes a long time to get out of debt. The more debt you have, the longer it will likely take. If it starts to feel like a huge load on your back, creating more stress than you can handle, remember that you are trusting God. Keep your eyes focused on Him, trust His providence, and don’t worry about paying everything off at once. As Dory said in the Pixar film Finding Nemo, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…”

Study: Romans 8:24-25 (NIV): “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

The debt is dropping slowly, but I still can’t afford to have fun with my money.

We all strive to get to that point where we can go out to eat on occasion, buy nice things here and there, give more gifts to others, increase our offering amount, and so on. As we begin to see the debt level decreasing, it’s tempting to start taking advantage of it right away, but we’ve learned that developing a savings account, paying off more debt, and things like that take priority. There’s nothing wrong with a rare treat though; without it, many people become discouraged and wind up bingeing with a paycheque. Remember, if it’s worth working toward, it will take time and patience. Keep the end goal in mind, and the time will pass faster than you think.

Study: Genesis 29:20 (NIV): “So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.”

I’m being faithful with tithing, but I want to give more.

The important thing to remember here is that you are tithing regularly, which is where your financial blessings start. Don’t feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or sad because you can’t increase your freewill offerings just yet—this will come in due time. Continue to be faithful in your tithing and remember what we’ve learned about God opening the windows of heaven for you. This amazing promise should inspire you more than anything should, because that’s tremendous amount of blessings.

Study: Habakkuk 2:3 (NIV): “For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
