Are You Telling Your Money Where To Go … or Just Wondering Where It Went?

by | Oct 30, 2014

Do we really believe that we are only the stewards of what God gives us… that we don’t own anything – we are just the custodians?

Do we really believe this?  More importantly… do you really believe this?

If so where is your plan for the use of these resources?  How do we tell our money where to go?

Stewardship is about the use of our time and resources.

We need to set ourselves a budget.

I hear people saying all the time that a budget is just boring and restrictive.

Let me reframe a budget for you

  • Someone recently said that a good budget protects your wealth.
  • It protects your wealth because it ensures that you don’t dip into your assets to meet your daily living needs – allowing your wealth to grow.  Makes sense to me.
  • If you keep dipping into the mortgage redraw facility – or as I like to call it, the ATM in the back yard, then you are eroding your wealth.

We are accountable to God

  • If you believe that one day we’ll be accountable for our lives – then how can you possibly think that this won’t include your finances?
  • Would a good father give a spendthrift and wasteful child more?  Isn’t God our good heavenly father?
  • So based on your previous spending habits, if you were God would you give you more?

I’m asking this because this is the start to being a good and faithful servant… as one can’t be a good and faithful servant without being a good steward of the resources God has entrusted to us.

So we must stop trying to keep up with the Jones.  Let’s Stop with the Better Homes & Gardens, the McMantions, the car leasing, and Stop with the credit card spending.

So get a budget together and start living by it.
